Come and work with us?
Can you help us spark huge international interest in UK film?
PLEASE NOTE - this job is now filled...
Fancy joining British Council's Film team for a year? As Rachel Robey heads off on maternity leave, we are looking for an energetic and creative film professional to join us for a year.
British Council Film is the link between UK films and filmmakers and new international audiences. Together with our global network of colleagues oversees, we work to profile the innovation, diversity, creativity and excellence of British films around the world, and find opportunities for creative exchange between the film communities in the UK and those elsewhere.
We have a crack team of Film Programme Managers who look after our activities - and as one of them will be heading off for maternity leave at the end of the year, we're now seeking a replacement to join us in January in order to lead our annual programme of international Film Festival selector screenings. Working to bridge the gap between the UK’s sales and production sector and the world’s highest profile international film festivals (including Berlin, Sundance, Cannes and Toronto), the role will also contribute to a vast general programme of international film activity particularly focussed on the Middle East and Africa.
Rachel is going to be a hard act to follow but we're hoping to find an energetic, enthusiastic and knowledgeable film specialist with recent experience in the UK film industry, ideally as a creative film producer. Experience of festival and event production, programme curation, or in marketing or distribution would also be a useful background. Either way, knowledge of and enthusiasm for UK films and filmmakers, a keen interest in the UK industry, an awareness of who’s making what, and an understanding of the international Film Festival map, will all be essential requirements. As will a head full of innovative project ideas designed to showcase the best of British abroad – and a keeness to travel in order to work with international partners to realise them.
This is a part time role - 4 days per week - so will very much suit someone who wants to maintain their industry links.
